On 21st May 2013, at 6pm, Microsoft announced the next generation of Xbox – Xbox One.
Microsoft Studios corporate vice president, Phil Spencer, has told Polygon that RARE will be at E3 this year.
Spencer Said “Fans of Rare and Rare IP I think will be pleased with what we’re going to show at E3, we had a limited amount of time today and a lot of story to tell. But Rare remains an incredibly important part of our development capability. That historic IP that they’ve built I think can play a real important role on Xbox One.”
With such a rich catalogue of games the question is which franchise will return, Killer Instinct, Blast Corps, Jet Force Jemini, RC Pro Am or even Perfect Dark?
Larry Hyrb, aka Major Nelson, has cast some more light over Xbox One and preowned games on his blog. So in his words:
“We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.”
“Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.”
“Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend’s house – should you choose to play your game at your friend’s house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile.”
For our final mission behind the scenes today, we were treated to a tour of some of the various Xbox Team Scientific Labs behind the console’s design and architecture.
These included the Xbox Live Command Centre, Xbox Product QA (testing the new hardware is actually really interesting – it was like a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-style lab!), the Industrial Design Team (complete with 3D printers) and a very expense sound testing chamber for the Kinect Sensor.
No photos were allowed in these areas – a lot of top secret stuff! What we did do is take a whole bunch of notes that we’ll write up and share with you tomorrow.
Thanks for sticking with us today, and we hope you enjoyed #XboxReveal!
“No rest for the wicked! Our next stop on our whirlwind Xbox One tour took us through the Microsoft Studios User Research Lab, where the Xbox brains have been at work on testing and refining the new Xbox One controller and Kinect Sensor. This includes lucky people like ourselves (and members of the public previously) getting hands on the new kit!!“
Following the Xbox One reveal, publishers have started to announce more titles to land on the new console.
Along with Madden, FIFA, UFC and NBA Live 14, EA has confirmed that first person shooter Battlefield 4 will be available for the Xbox One, complete with the Premium DLC pack China Rising.
Following the Xbox One reveal, publishers have started to announce more titles to land on the new console.
Ubisoft have declared they’ll release six games for Xbox One. The only ones they’ve announced thus far are Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Watch_Dogs, both of which were considered shoe-ins after the PS4 versions were announced.
Eidos Montreal have also confirmed stealth reboot Thief will also be sneaking onto Xbox One.
“Our next stop today is a panel hosted by MajorNelson (Xbox Community Team) with several of the brains behind the new Xbox One. Keep your eyes out for a write-up later on!”
“Having seen a bunch of streams, being live in the audience for a reveal is certainly louder and more dramatic than it can appear on the stream. Emerging slightly deafened (but with interest thoroughly piqued!) from the reveal tent, we’re flanked on both sides by some freshly presented, heavily guarded and encased Xbox One consoles, controllers and sensors.
“For the rest of the evening UK time (afternoon here in Seattle), we’ll be in and out of a few presentations to learn a bit more about the new Xbox, including a panel and a potential campus tour.
Keep an eye out at later for more info from me – if there’s anything you’d like me to try find out, let me know through @GAMEdigital using the hashtag #GAMEXboxNews”
A lot came out of that Call of Duty: Ghosts presentation! The graphics were better than ever, with the new engine producing more detail, dymanic shadows and so much more. Dynamic multiaplyer maps will offer earthquakes and trapdoors to change the environment, and even the little things, like better smoke and AI for fish as you swim past them! The story is even written by Oscar-winner Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana)!
All in all, Infinity Ward have promised us the best Call of Duty game ever, and after that trailer, it’s hard to argue!
EA’s biggest announcement was brief, but shocking – exclusive content for FIFA Ultimate Team, only on Xbox!
A few choice tech specs – 8GB RAM, USB 3.0 connection, Blu-ray drive, Variable power states, Wi Fi and Silent Running!
New Motion Gestures let you navigate through the different programs instantly. And if you want to run more than one progrmam at once, Snap Mode lets you do this. Browse the net while watching TV and more, using your SmartPhone as a remote control!
With those two words, the Xbox One will turn on, not only with voice activation but voice recognition! It knows your voice and loads up your personal home page, complete with remembering what you were last doing… and was that Forza we saw? And quick voice controls to switch between live TV, gaming and more!
“It’s time for technology to step behind the curtain” says Don Mattrick as he announces Xbox One – All your entertainment – in one”!

Just so you’re not alarmed, we’re aware of a slight delay in the countdown clock on the live video. Don’t worry – you won’t miss any of the action!
Our friends over @IGNUK also quizzed you all about what you wanted to see during the Xbox Reveal. They even set up a poll, and here are the results. Do you agree?
Our Man on the Ground has just reported in. He’s finished his crispy bacon and is now on his way to the presentation. Excitement is building on both sides of the Atlantic!
As part of our Xbox celebrations, we’ve got a very special deal for you: Metro: Last Light – The GAME Exclusive Edition on Xbox 360 – for only £27.99!
This fantastic offer is only available for 1 HOUR (or while stocks last)! To take advantage, just use the voucher code XBOXREVEAL during the checkout!
He reports: “It’s a wet and windy day in Seattle, so for all you people wishing you were here, you’re not missing any weather!
F1 car supremos McLaren revealled an interesting tidbit on their Facebook page: “Xbox is revealing something special. We think you might like what they’re announcing…” Our friends at IGN suggests this could be further evidence of a Forza announcement this evening. But it’s been a while since there was a Project Gotham Racing game.
Well, we can dream, can’t we?
3D Glasses? A new Kinect? These and other functions have all been created, at least in prototype form, for the next Xbox – at least according to The Wall Street Journal. That respected paper has published an interesting piece regarding Microsoft’s big announcement and how they may hope to compete with smartphones. Will any of these prototypes appear as part of the finished console this evening?
Over 170 GAME Stores will be opening their doors this evening to stream the Xbox Announcement. So why not head into store and experience the New Generation reveal with your fellow gamers, and you can cheer, discuss and bond together!
IGN are reporting that FIFA will be making their presence known at today’s reveal event. This comes from a tease on the FIFA Facebook Page that included the official #XboxReveal Hashtag.

FIFA has been making leaps and bounds in recent years anyway – just how good should we expect the next-gen version of virtual footie to be?
Less than 11 hours until the future of Xbox is revealed, are you excited yet? Make sure you are ready today at 6pm.
During Major Nelson’s latest podcast, Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Chief Aaron Greenberg revealed that tomorrow’s big reveal is part one of a two stage event.
“The best way I can describe it is, we’re really going to tell one story across two events. So we’re going to start on the 21st [of May] and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform and our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.
“People are going to get a great inside look at the making of the new platform and the team that brought it to life. To be honest it’s really about the team, the people here. We’ve never done this before, so it’s really exciting to be able to do that.
“It’s a lot of laying the foundation, and then just a couple weeks later we go to E3, and E3 is all about the games. It’s going to be tons of exclusives world premieres.”
Could the the first game from Respawn Entertainment appear exclusively on the new Xbox? According to Kotaku, the debut title from Respawn – the studio headed by Call of Duty creators Jason West and Vince Zampella – will only be coming to the new Xbox (and possibly Xbox 360). Little is known about this new game, but Kotaku have their theories on this, too.
Could this be the first big name to sign up to Xbox exclusivity?
Excitement isn’t the only thing building at Xbox HQ as the days countdown to the New Generation reveal.
Thanks to tweets from Xbox’s Major Nelson and Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft have started to construct the home of the new Xbox Presentation. Not long to go now…
Did you see the first trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts? From the message at the end of the trailer, it looks like we know at least one thing we’ll be seeing at the New Generation Xbox Reveal – the new Call of Duty game, “live”!
I think the new Xbox should have an easier way of transitioning quickly between gameplay and being able to communicate with teammates or friends. It would also be good if it was able to support many different kinds of controller, wired or otherwise. #GAMEXboxNews
Wow
how much is the xbox720 going to be
It hasnt been released yet. They might announce it at E3.
It will cost nothing, because there is no Xbox 720.
I would like to see a blue ray DVD player in the new Xbox as well as some new Xbox accessories and have some Xbox controllers that you can customize.
Christian, Sony managed to © the use of blu-ray disc readers in consoles, so that wont be happening.
actualy the anoucement said it will have blu ray
Blueray is sony so i dont think you will be seing that on xbox…
They announced that it does have a blu ray didn’t you watch the stream at the start?
Did neither of you watch the reveal?! http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18odlq7xwasy5png/ku-xlarge.png
They stated during the reveal it will have a blu-ray drive so i would assume that means Blu-ray dvd capability
l would love to see multi tasking as you can play a other game at the same time as the one running in the background
Incase you didn’t notice, but it does have that with the Kinect, you can tell it to go to home and you an run another game or application at the same time, so you can easily switch between Cod and Halo without changing discs
on the new xbox i want to see free youtube, 4od etc like on ps3
That already exists on the current xbox. Go into Apps and you can download loads of good ones
You need Gold Account for that?
yes
then its not really free
So naming the system, GO!
1.Xbox Konect
2.Xbox Infinity
3.Xbox Fusion
all together xbox i good all together
Options on how to watch this exclusive
It will be called the Xbox Infinity.
It will NOT have a Blue-Ray player.
It’s gpu etc will be a little lesser than the PS4.
The PS4 and Xbox Infinity will be not as powerful as a gaming PC from 4 year ago; making them outdated already.
For the price you will pay for a console: you might as well build a budget PC; games are far cheaper and more satisfying!
Pc nerds go way Xbox rocks bring on Xbox infinity
Well you were wrong there then…
How wrong are you about the name of the new xbox and everything else you have said lol
I’m thinking you maybe want to check your facts before trying to say what WILL and WILL NOT be lol
Idiot!
Looks like you’re wrong about 95% of what you just said.
Wow… How many things did u get wrong there then? Lol!
Can’t wait xbox for life!
ho hum…..hardly any exclusives will be on this platform same as the 360….PS4 for me
15 exclusives on the XBOX One. That enough for you?
Lets see wha gwan with tha new Xbox last one very gd can it beat PlayStation again or take on the big sony giants lord of mercy lol lmaooooooooo
What Xbox are you advertising doesn’t tell me
The ‘new’ one. Microsoft are revealing it today, or at least making a big announcement about something XBox related. No one knows anything other than that. Except Microsoft, of course.
I’m sure that gamers will be very excited to hear the news…us parents however will be interested in one thing only: How Much is it going to cost???
I would like to see the new Xbox so I can save one for me
I am SUPER excited about this but I’m also really hoping we might actually see the -console- and not just the controller for this one (Ahem, Sony. ¬_¬)
roll on 6pm i cant wait for a look of whats to come
cant wait to see the new Xbox 720…. based on x64 system and will have blu-ray
I’ll buy one the day it comes out regardless of what this announcement tells us… Its bound to be an improvement over the XBOX 360 (which is already the best console anyway) so it makes sense to have the latest and greatest. If you think about it the Xbox 360 will be 8 years old by the time the new Xbox launches. Assuming the new Xbox costs £600 then that works out at £6.25 per month over 8 years so it is a no brainer to buy one in my view…
Less of a social aspect for me. I don’t wanna Facebook every game I play.
It’s REALLY happening!
Can you play xbox 360 games on there and can you put a xbox 360 hardrive in their
There is no guarantee that we’ll have the answer to this question, but stay tuned to find out more – it all kicks off at 6pm (BST).
Is the Xbox gonna be presented on this website with actual footage that Microsoft are giving?
Hi, yes we will be streaming live footage from the Xbox Announcement right here – stay tuned and you won’t miss out on a thing!
I am Excited for the new xbox and i hope they let you see it, i want it to be quieter/ No sound when its loads up. i want most things wireless that would be cool i also want it to be lighter and Blu-ray will be good but most people will just complain that it will be copying the Ps3/ Ps4. i want it where its limited to any downloads or where you can loads of friends instead of it say you cannot add anyone else contacts are full. The NEW XBOX will be around £500 to £600. i want xbox live cheaper what won’t happen but it will be better that way, the pad should stay kinda the same just more stylish and the name to me doesn’t matter its more about what it does and what it can do.
OMG cant wait but…
apparently you have to always be connected to the internet
Finally the rumours will be laid to rest to the next 8 years
17mins left
cant wait to see the xbox 720
and I wont be CALL XBOX INFINITY
been waiting for this moment
Big shout out to all attending the GAME Kilmarnock reveal event. Hope you all enjoy

The XBOXREVEAL code doesn’t work for Metro Last Light.
Hi,
The XBOXREVEAL code was only set-up for use against Metro: Last Light for an hour (or until we reached our stock limits), and unfortunately it appears we had reached that limit before your order. Sorry for any inconvenience.
how much does it cost?

I’m not excited, I’m frightened! I fear change. Actually my son (who is on the autism spectrum) fears change, so I am hoping that the new Xbox is as close to the old Xbox as possible, or that I’ll be able to keep the 360 running for some time in the future.
Asaaaaaaah!
MY GOD, a live action halo tv series!!!!! =D =D FINALLY
i like it and no golds that all concerns
How soon does anybody think that this will be available for a pre-order?. I realise the Xbox one has only just been announced, but it looks awesome and I so want one.
Will Xbox 360 games work in the new xbox?
when will the xboxone be out in stores to buy?
the new xbox one looks amazing and has improved so much wonder how much its going to cost?
can’t wait
when will we be able to pre order it?

But does it lift?
You should stop reading so many rumour sites.
I’m a PS3 gamer and I thought the PS4 looked really good when first clips of it was released but after see the first 5 mins of this launch I feel that Microsoft have just put more effort in to making the new console
Could do with a 3d compatibility
Amazing, How much will it cost???
Hi,

I missed the live video. when can i watch it again and where?
looks and sounds fantastic, but will all that work on our (UK) crappy broadband ? not everyone has fibre broadband, oh and, was that a bit of a give away by COD ghosts?
that’s due for release on 5/11/13, they sound like they’re only making it for the next gen console, so are they releasing the console by then?
Just Yes!
I shall be there 9am sharp to get my pre order in
I saw nothing impressive with this event at all, it was more about tv channels or Skype, rather than bring the gamer the ultimate gaming experience an due to that it puts ps4 firmly in front
The new Call of Duty was the highlight of the event looked simply fantastic looking forward to seeing more of that as time goes on
Preowned games?
Will xboxone need always online connection and are they stopping preowned games
anyone else expect more? im in the unfortunate position atm as my 6th xbox has died, I had sold my ps3 years ago so im stuck with my wii, didn’t wanna but another console yet until id seen this. its just an update tho to whats already out with a few tweeks
honestly, I was more impressed with the wii u announcement-shame on the 3rd party support tho…
so do I wait or do I get a ps3 or wii u to keep me going?
Will the Xbox 360 games work on the Xbox one ?
No, the console will not have backward compatibility with older games
I don’t like the name
I think that it isn’t really a good idea bringing out forza 5 only for the xboxone as there is already thousands of forza fans like myself who would rather buy the new game than a new consol. Therefore I will not be buying the new Xbox until I know it works fine and is good fun
im so getting 1
Oh god the new Xbox looks like an old Video Recorder from the 80′s, where’s the style gone? Talk about uninspiring…
no new halo, sigh guess call of duty would just do…. MOAR EPICNESS
Oh. My. Gosh. Thats all i have to say
Cant wait for Xbox One
is the new xbox backwards compatible with games? I’m hearing it’s not .. what a rip off if it isn’t!
Can u play 360 games on new Xbox
Nope, unless you pay a fee. All games will HAVE to be installed to run
does any one whant to play xbox ?
holy crap this is amazing will deffo be getting the xbox one it looks mind blowing wow just wow
if you buy the new Xbox and your friend does not can you still have him as a friend on the new Xbox
How much is it gonna cost me?Thats all that matters!
Any release date for the Xbox one
Is it possible to repair a laser burnt disc .if so how much will it cost.
Can a laser burnt disc be repaired
can xbox one players play with 360 users ?
this is totally rubbish it looks like a mgadrive no one of those olden day console i mean just have a loo at that . it so damn big and ugly.
its been shown and im not impressed, before i get slagged down the plus
blu ray PS3 HAD ONE
tv voice, now you can say watch tv and it turns over ;p
say xbox ON and it turns on so saves time logging in ;p
negative LOADS
The size of a vcr from the 80s
if your mate says “come on were going out” you say “no im not turning the XBOX OFF” LMAO it goes off lol
they charge you 40 pound a year, to not have a gaming console, to have a tv pc on the tv, wtf is happening to games I WANT A GAMING MACHINE not a skype youtube netflix lovefilm talking box.
Please tell me im the last gamer that just wants games online and to kick ass rather than the rubbish companys putting apps all over the profile pages to cash in on us the people.
bring me snes or mega drive lmao
Xbox 1 will be the best console ever it’s going to top ps4 so much
So the xbox one will not play “preowned games” unless you pay for a pass.
Bye bye MS
xbox have confirmed a blue ray player will be in the new system
I was surprised by lack of game play. Xbox replaced game play with the showing of console, but to be honest I would rather have seen game play. Also this seems heavily built around kinect. Will it come with a kinect and will it be the old one or will they bring out a new kinect with it?
Can the old kinnect work on the new xbox ?
I was just wondering how much the console is I know the deposit is £20 but how much is it. Also does it come with the kinect 2.0.
Don’t they mean XBOX Three?
For the ones that have the xbox 360 250gb will we be able to trade it in towards the new xbox like we could with the xbox 360 elite
Has it been said if you can use previous gen or preowned games on this console?
Will u b able to play 360 games on this console
I think it would be cool if we could customise the new xbox with different colours
simply amazing
will it play 360 games
Looking at most of the comments it seems that people are commenting and not actually watching the video.
they should make online free for starters as the downloadable content cost a fortune
I think new Xbox one it really good window. 8 software.
What is the cost of the Xbox One? I was going to preorder it but not sure how much it will be.
Disappointed with the focus on non-gaming features. The focus is clearly to reel casual gamers into the console market. Personally, I’m apathetic towards smart glass, Kinect, cloud, TV integration, movie and music services. I wanted to see games, and what did we actually see? Next to nothing. Hopefully E3 shows more games…..and doesn’t forget about the core audience, otherwise it’s PS4 for me which is looking to be the likely outcome
Microsoft failed big time
Can you play only Xbox 360 games on this new Xbox one?
Games like Forza 5, Quantum Break, FIFA 14 and Call of Duty: Ghosts are coming to the console with exclusive content. When will you have ghosts available for pre-order on xbox one?
Now at http://www.game.co.uk/en/games/new-xbox
